I'm so thankful we've reached the end of another work week! It just so happens that me and Sleeping In are best friends, so the weekend is always much anticipated! :)
I'm linking up at Beth's blog to join in this week's Friday Fives. This week's theme is five random questions. These are always fun!
Today is the last Friday of September...that means payday is coming soon! And might I ask where September has gone?! It's basically October!
1. What's your "comfort food"?
My favorite comfort food would have to be some type of junk, of course. I'm not sure I can pinpoint a single comfort food because it usually depends on my mood. Chick-fil-a is always good, candy bars/chocolate always help, and sometimes even eating boiled peanuts with a good Coke is considered good "comfort."
2.One thing thats on your mind right now?
Everything that I have to do this weekend to be ready for another school week. This coming school week isn't just any old school week, though. The FL Department of Education people will at our school from 7:30-5:30 on Thursday conducting an instructional review. They will be going in all classrooms, observing us, critiquing everything we do, including professionalism to teaching. No pressure, right?! Anyway, I've got a lot on my plate this weekend. A LOT.
3. What's the best advice you've ever received?
-To remember to take breaks when working hard on a project or writing a paper (in college but still applies to the real world!)
-That when people are getting to you for whatever reason, not to show them in any way that they bother you so that you don't fuel their fire
-To be a fair and consistent teacher all the time so that the kids won't run over you
-To spend as much time as possible with the people who mean the most to you because once they're gone, they're gone
4. If you found $10 today, what would you do with it?
I would probably put that money toward some clothing item (shirt, skirt, shorts, shoes, etc.)! Shopping is so fun!
5. What is your least favorite thing to clean in your house?
I hate cleaning the shower/bathtub! Ugh! It's just not an easy job! Luckily, I only have a shower in my bathroom with glass doors so it's east to keep clean. (Dayna has the full bath and shower in her bathroom.)
(That isn't a picture of my bathroom, it's just to serve an iconic purpose!)
That wraps up my Friday Fives, but my weekend is just beginning! I'm looking forward to it!

Miscellany Monday!
This week, I decided to link up with Carissa over at lowercase letters to join in on Miscellany Monday Fun!
Here are the random thoughts on my mind right now:
1. I'm so glad candy corn are back in season. They fit in perfect with my healthy diet (sarcastic emphasis on the word 'healthy'). I love the way I can feel my teeth get all sugary and gritty after I eat them. (Insert more sarcasm.) But seriously, I do love candy corn (in small doses) and I'm glad to have a whole bag at my disposal!
2. Today was a day without students at work. They call it "Data Day." Basically, we reviewed test data in order to drive our instruction this year. Yes, it's as exactly as it sounds-monotonous. So, that's all I'll say about that in order to keep you from boredom.
3. I had a Firehouse Sub for dinner tonight. Mmm mmm mmm! I left work at 6:20 so I was not cooking. (Not that I usually cook though, just to be truthful).
4.I am getting a new student tomorrow. I don't mind having another and I really liked the fact that I found out a day ahead of time. I was able to prepare for him some this afternoon which is SO much more helpful than the office buzzing my room in the middle of teaching to tell me the new student is already here. I mean, I can work that just fine, it's just more helpful to know ahead of time.
5.The last random fact for the night- one month from tomorrow I turn 24! What's even more random is the fact that I'm turning 25 thirteen months from tomorrow. Oh-em-gee! 25 next year! It doesn't seem possible that I can be nearing the halfway mark to 30!
Enough of my random ramblings for one night! Goodnight!

A Busy Week
Each week, I always feel like it's a "busy week." That's just the nature of teaching, though. However, I do have to admit that these weeks seem to going by so quickly! This was the best week my class and I have had yet. Still hoping for more improvements! Sunday after church, Dayna and I met up with some of our teacher friends, Jessica and Shaundra because they both had City Cash to be redeemed at New York & Company. They were so thoughtful to share with us so that we could save money too! What girl would turn that down?
I bought 2 shirts that were marked down 40% off and then 2 necklaces that were buy one, get one 50% off. The total came to $64, but with the 2 City Cash coupons Shaundra gave me, I ended up spending $35. Not bad at all for 2 shirts and 2 necklaces!
Afterward we enjoyed laughing and talking with some Coldstone Ice Cream. :)
That shopping trip was the last fun I had on Sunday, as I spent from 5 in the afternoon 'til 2 a.m. getting ready for school this week. I cannot keep doing that-I become extremely exhausted! You can thank me for stating the obvious! Ha!
I decided to join the choir at the new church I'm going to. I was involved in my church choir growing up from 3rd-12th grade. Then in college I continued to be involved in music ministry as a member of the Collegiate Chorale, choir, and Chapel praise team. During my internship and last half of the school year, I wasn't involved in any type of singing and I missed it a lot! I want to keep at it so that I can still be relatively good at it. Ha! So last Sunday, the music pastor announced that they were seeking new members to join the choir and they had a whole page in the bulletin dedicated to that, so I felt that was God's way of saying, "Kaitlin, you've been thinking about it and this is your opportunity." It was perfect! So, I filled out my information and went to choir practice this Wednesday night and the people were friendly and I enjoyed it! This Sunday will be my first week singing with them in church. I'm really looking forward to this opportunity!
I started decorating for Fall two weeks ago because quite frankly, I just couldn't see a reason why I should wait! Ha! Fall, in my book, is almost as exciting as the Christmas season. Although I've never experienced a true Fall, I just love the semi-break of the heat and the smells of the candles in the stores and I just think that the colors of Fall are beautiful. If only I lived in a more northern state so I could truly experience the season's beauty!
I bought this arrangement at Michael's for $3.99 a bushel and the vase was also $3.99. The reason they were so cheap was because the whole collection was clearanced. Good for me!! It's perfect for Fall and the regular colors I decorate with year-round.
The placemats are from Wal-Mart. I love them!! I decided to get 2 solid colors and 2 printed ones so that the table wouldn't look so busy.
The leaves are also from Michael's. They were $1.99 for 12 leaves. They have a velvet feel to them and look so pretty!
I found this little collection at Walgreens for super cheap and knew it would look perfect on the kitchen bar counter.
I also have some pumpkins and other leaves I got at Walmart but don't have a picture of them yet. I would love to decorate more, but I really shouldn't spend any more money, especially because I know I'll want to go all-out for Christmas, too! I also am trying to save so that we can get our furniture on layaway by our scheduled date!
I'm so thankful it's Friday. I baked some Oatmeal Scotchies cookies tonight, cleaned my bathroom, folded towels, and caught up on some blog posts I've been working on! I feel productive! Dayna and I went to Cracker Barrel for dinner tonight and there I bought a cute pillar candle set unlike anything I've seen before. Once I get candles in it, I'll post pictures.
We have to attend "Data Day" at school on Monday but it's a holiday for our students, so that will be a nice break to get caught up while the kids aren't there. I don't have anything planned this weekend so I'm looking forward to just relaxing!

Sunset Cruise
About a month ago, I went on a "sunset cruise" with my parents and sister Korinne on one of my parents' friend's boats. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was a lot of fun, not to mention how beautiful the sunset was!
And then here was the sky a little while later as the sun began to set more. Isn't this beautiful? How are there people who think that God isn't real? I wonder.
We went out on the Sarasota Bay and visited some sandbars that were miles from the shore isolated in the middle of the water! Here I am standing on one!
After that, we cruised over to another sandbar which I discovered had grass flats near them. Well, in high school, I took a Marine Biology course that took field trips to Sarasota Bay quite often to do research in the grass flats and find different sea creatures. I absolutely loved that class and learned a lot from it! So, Rob, the boat captain, gave me some nets and a flashlight (it was dark by now) and I started running the net through the grass flats to see what I could find! On my very first try, I caught a SEAHORSE!
I love seahorses! I think they are so unique and I find it interesting that the male seahorse carries the babies and gives birth to them! I was so excited about finding a seahorse that I was determined to find more after letting that one go back into the water! I only ended up finding one more, but I was excited still. :) Both seahorses I caught were small!
Other creatures I found included baby flounder, jellyfish, needlefish, shiner fish, hermit crabs, and lots of crawdads! It was so much fun! I was even brave to walk in the grass flats in the dark! Ha!
Well, I knew Dayna would love to go on a sunset cruise and Rob, the boat captain, told me the last time I went that I was welcome anytime and that he'd love any excuse to take his boat out. So after a stressful (very stressful!) week at work, Dayna and I headed to Sarasota directly after school on Friday to enjoy a sunset cruise. No students. No lesson plans. No papers to grade. No e-mail to check and reply to. Nothing related to school-except that Rob's wife works in the classroom that connects to my mom's classroom...so 4 teachers on the sunset cruise did generate some teacher conversation. :)
Here we are right before the cruise (Korinne has to be reminded to smile in each picture, guess she didn't get the memo in this one!)
I didn't take too many pictures this time, but we all enjoyed seeing another beautiful sunset!

Remembering 9/11
Anyone old enough to comprehend such a catastrophe remembers where they were on September 11th, 2001 when they first heard the news that the World Trade Centers had been struck by two planes.
I was in 9th grade and was switching from my first period class to my second period class, and someone I was walking with or near, mentioned that the World Trade Centers had been hit by a plane. A few moments later, I was now sitting inside of my Physical Science class and our teacher, Ms. Erb, turned on the TV. And that's when I first caught a glimpse of such horror.
I was 14 years old at the time of the attacks and prior to, I had no knowledge of what the World Trade Centers were or what they even looked like. Growing up in Florida, and having never been to NYC, I had no background knowledge of them. I remember sitting in that science class and our teacher's face was just motionless. As we watched on TV, I wasn't able to fully comprehend the impact of the event because before then, I didn't know the World Trade Centers existed. I'm not quite sure if at the time of the class, both buildings had already been hit, or if it was just the one. However, after the second building was struck, it was clear that whatever this was, it had been planned. The rest of the day, I remember most teachers allowed us to watch it on the News, or just sit and take it all in.
That afternoon, I came home and my dad was out of work at the time, so he was home. I remember him and I just watching the reports of the attacks on the News and he was able to explain to me a little bit more about what the World Trade Centers were. I was just astonished. I began to connect that two massive-size buildings, based in New York City, both bearing a name with the word "World", had been severely attacked. This wasn't a plane "crash" or an accident. It was undoubtedly a terrorist attack.
I remember watching the people and the chaos in NYC, unable to imagine what they were going through. I remember seeing people running for their lives, literally.
I remember hearing people in the city say, "I'm waiting to hear from my husband-wife-daughter-son-aunt-uncle-cousin-friend to see if they're alive." Heart wrenching. I remember seeing smoke and debris, random papers and things flying loose from the buildings. I remember seeing people covered in smoke, that's how heavy it was. I remember seeing so many selfless men and women doing everything in their power to help and find those who were still alive, waiting to be rescued.
I remember watching those buildings fall completely to what is now known as "Ground Zero." What a final statement that just leaves you speechless.
Ironically, President Bush was in Sarasota (my hometown) the morning of 9/11 visiting an elementary school. He cut his trip even shorter, and quickly boarded Air Force One to address this horrific terrorist attack on our nation.
I cannot imagine the women who kissed their husbands goodbye that morning, not knowing they would never see them again after that. I cannot imagine the women who were pregnant and never got to experience the birth and life of that child with their husband. I cannot imagine the husbands who are continuing to live their lives and raise a family without their wife. I cannot imagine children who went to school that morning only to find out a few hours later that their mom or dad or both were trapped inside of a burning building, and might not make it out alive. The list goes on of all the feelings that I can't imagine, yet those feelings I can't imagine are so real to others who lost loved ones that day.
Not only people who worked in the World Trade Centers were victims that day, but also the hundreds of men and women who so selflessly offered their lives in an attempt to help rescue others. How amazing. I know as soon as they entered the gates of Heaven, Jesus greeted them saying, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
"No greater love is there than this, than to lay down one's life, for a friend." John 15:13.
It is hard to believe that today marks 9 years of this catastrophe. Tonight, as I've typed this post, I've been watching "102 Minutes That Changed America." As I watch, I remember vividly those images as when I first saw them. It gets me teary-eyed every time watching the people wandering the city after they heard the news, just waiting anxiously to see what would happen next and to know if their loved one was safe. It doesn't seem real that people could plan such an event and go through with it, taking the innocent lives of thousands.
In 2007, I was in NYC with some college friends and we walked to Ground Zero and were able to see some of what they had started as a memorial. We were there on a rainy night, so I didn't get a true experience. I plan to go back again so that I can truly spend time visiting the memorial. I know it will be a moving experience.
This day shall forever serve as a reminder to cherish the ones we love and to always show appreciation and gratitude to the men and women who risk their lives daily to fight for our freedom.

Friday Fives
This week's Friday Fives theme is "5 things you always have in your fridge." You can head over to Beth's blog and check out what she keeps in her fridge, or check out the links and visit other blogs, too!
Here are the things I always keep in my fridge!
1.
Coke! Definitely one of my must-haves!
2.
Milk! I love milk! I buy Publix milk and it looks just like this picture, except the cap is purple. That's what I called it when I was little "purple milk." I was raised on this stuff. :)
3.
Shredded cheese! I love cheese and I like to make chip nachos for a snack every now and then, so this is good to have.
4.
A Brita water pitcher. I love water!
5.
Margarine is always a must-have for lots of recipes!
Well, this list was probably extremely boring, but my pantry and freezer are much more exciting (translated: that's where the junk food is found!) Ha!
I'm SO glad today is Friday AND that Monday is a holiday! I was at work 'til 7:45 tonight trying to get caught up. I am planning to decorate for Fall this weekend! I got some things at Walmart last night. I think I'm going to go to Big Lots too because they usually have affordable and cute holiday decorations! I'm in a big mood for Fall right now, so I'd love to decorate for it! I'll post pictures, soon!
Have a great weekend!!

Back In The Swing of Things!
My collection of Silly Bands is growing, that must mean school is back in session.
I tell my students, "If you wear 'em, that's fine, if you play with 'em, they're mine." I really do not mind if the kids wear them, but their natural tendency is to want to play with them all day and trade them (since that's the point, I guess)?
Needless to say, I have silly bands bulging out of my pockets by the time it's 3:30. It's also still the beginning of the school year, so I'm trying to really stick to what I say so that they'll take me seriously.
I definitely am feeling back in the swing of things and I can't believe we are already halfway through the second week of school. I have been so busy! Last night was our first Parent Night; I hope I answered all of the parents' questions! Tomorrow I have a meeting at 10:30 for a student which could last up to two hours (it's educational, not disciplinary) so I have to plan for a sub which is never fun. I just hope my students act appropriately. I'm only down the hall. ;)
Lately, I've been feeling the presence of Fall! It's seriously like my favorite time of year. I love that I am a "Fall baby"-my birthday is in October!
I think the storm activity in the tropics is causing some wind without rain which has allowed for a break from the scorching Florida heat. Florida usually never really feels cooler weather until sometime in October, but even to have a few days right now that are windy and cooler is so nice!
I love love love the Christmas season, but I really love Fall, too. I love going into the stores and seeing all of the Fall decorations, colors, and smelling the scents.
I just wish I lived where the leaves changed and the weather got significantly cooler. Someday maybe?
I really need to see an allergist. Being "back in the swing of things" makes it hard for me to go because of work. Since returning to work, I have developed a constant itchy throat and itchy ears and I'm sneezing all the time. I wasn't sure why it was happening all the time. So, like any good American in the 21st century, I googled it. Sure enough, the exact same symptoms I have are described as allergies of some sort, but I don't know what is triggering it. The constant itchiness has become a huge annoyance, especially when I'm trying to teach.
Today, Warner University, my alma mater, started classes. It's still weird to think college is over. Sometimes I have to remind myself that it's true: I'm in "real life" now! I love this "real life," but when I think about the fact that I began college 5 years ago, that makes me feel old!
I got these shorts recently from Target to sleep in and they are the most comfortable things ever!! I even bought another pair just because of how comfy they are! It seems to me like women's boxers usually ride up during the night as you move and just don't always fit well. These, though, are amazing! They are $9.99-you should get some!
I'm already looking forward to the 3-day weekend! What a nice break it will be after a busy 4 weeks!!
